Class Descriptions

Gentle Hatha - These classes include gentle stretches to increase flexibility and strength, breath work for relaxation and rejuvenation as well as meditation techniques to calm the mind. The small group setting is ideal for working with the specific needs of individuals in the class. Therefore, all levels of student are welcome, including seniors and those new to yoga. It is also suitable for those with yoga experience who appreciate a gentler class. Many posture modifications are offered to suit individuals' needs.

Vinyasa Flow - For students looking for a more vigorous class, Vinyasa Flow explores postures from the Asthanga yoga series, bringing in wisdom and insight from other traditions (Scaravelli, Viniyoga). This includes forward bends, twists, side bends, balance poses, moderate backbends, inversions and sun salutations. All poses are linked with the breath as you learn to move gracefully from posture to posture.

Ashtanga - Ashtanga yoga is a vigorous series of poses linked together with the breath and movement. The first series (of six) aims to align the body, correcting postural mis-alignments and teaching the practitioner focus through breath, bandhas (muscular locks) and gaze. In the level 1 class we will explore the poses of the primary series, with variations offered for differing abilities and experience.

In the Level 2 class, we'll take a deeper look at the primary series poses and begin to explore poses from the second series. We will look at the two sun salutations, standing poses, seated poses, backbends, forward bends, hand balances and inversions. This class will deepen your experience of the breath, bandhas and dristi (gaze) as well as the asanas (postures) and is suitable for students with prior yoga experience.

Moms and Babies - Whether you're new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, this class will help you recover your pre-baby body, while having some quality time with your little one. Meet other new moms while stretching and strengthening your body, mind and spirit. Come until your baby can crawl away from the mat. Please bring blankets and toys, as well as a yoga mat and/or blanket to practice on.

Yoga Therapy - Restorative yoga for those looking to maintain or regain a healthy body and mind. Focus in this class is on gentle stretching to aid in circulation and flexibility, as well as working with the breath to ease the mind. This class is suitable for those who may have restrictions in movement or are recovering from injuries. Please consult your doctor or health care provider to determine if practicing yoga is appropriate for you.

Intermediate Hatha - Explore body, mind and breath in a more challenging class where we hold poses longer and discover the sublte changes that occur as a result. Students should be familiar with basic yoga positions and breath work. Along with movement and breathing, we will also explore seated meditation and chanting for a deeper experience. Group discussions and yoga philosophy will also make up a part of this class.
