After ten years of teaching Yoga, and with a new-found love of whitewater canoeing, Caroline began Wavelengths in 2000 as a traveling school that balanced the steadiness and clarity of Yoga with the exciting challenge of whitewater canoeing. Wavelengths offered whitewater canoe trips and instruction with Yoga and healthy living. She has since left the considerable organizing of canoe trips to others much better suited to the job (see www.blackfeather.com) and has dedicated her efforts to sharing the many benefits of Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage, whether at her studio in Norwood, or on the side of a remote river in the Northwest Territories.

Caroline Owen has traveled to India, Thailand, and all over North America over the past 18 years to study with some of the world's most renowned masters of the ancient healing arts of Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage and Yoga Therapy. During that time, she has worked with her teachers and students to adapt the practices to meet the needs of each unique individual. The practices are as relevant in our modern world as they were thousands of years ago when they originated. She continues ongoing studies through the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation, both in North America and Chennai, India.

Caroline completed yoga teacher training at Sheridan College and went on to study with Esther Myers in Toronto until Esther passed away in 2003. She studied Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy in Mysore, India, and at Downward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto, Canada. She continues to study Yoga Therapy and Yoga philosophy with TKV and Kausthub Desikachar through The Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation.

Her dedication to Thai Yoga Massage is equally impressive. After being introduced to Thai Yoga Massage through a workshop, she travelled to Thailand to study in the Northern "Old Medicine Hospital" style of Thai massage in Chiang Mai, completing 5 levels of training, including Teacher Training. Returning to Canada, she completed another 4 levels of training, including Teacher Training and Herbal Therapy at Thai Massage Toronto where she worked for two years. Caroline's workshops, courses and massages have inspired others to learn this healing art, including Sue Prentice of Sumana Thai Yoga Massage.

She has recently produced a full length professional recording, "Open Heart - Yoga to Awaken Loving Kindness" which includes an asana practice and two guided meditations, all set to beautiful music. Click here for more information.

Caroline's joyful nature and devoted presence promote an atmosphere of calm and nurturing, which allows powerful healing to occur naturally.

Caroline can still be found with a paddle in her hands sitting in vrajasana (kneeling). In 2012, she will be guiding a women's tripon the Nahanni River, NWT and leading a yoga/outdoor adventure retreat in Bella Coola, B.C. More information about those trips coming soon on our workshops and special events page.
